Leisurely cycle through the pear orchards
There are 30,000 acres of pear gardens. It is Beijing’s biggest and oldest fruit farm, with the most types of fruit and earliest blossoming season. The majority of the fruit gardens here are over 200 years old and among them there is a 414 year old “Prince’s Pear Tree”. It was planted in Ming Dynasty in the years of the emperor Wan Li as a tribute to the imperial palace, it was called by the Emperor “Jin Ba Huang”. When the flowers of the fruit trees blossom, it appears as if snow has fallen all over the trees. The combination of the blue sky and blossom is especially dazzling and makes the village all the more enchanting.
Making Chinese dumplings
Dumplings have been influenced by the Chinese people’s love for traditional foods. According to legend, dumplings were first invented by Zhang Zhongjing, so the history of Chinese dumplings is already over 1800 years old. During festivals in northern China, dumplings are the most important dish. New Year’s Eve dumplings are one of the most important aspects of Chinese New Year celebrations.
In addition, in Chinese there is a saying: “Welcome guests with dumplings, send-off guests with noodles”. Dumplings symbolise reunion and groups, therefore, when guests arrive from a distance place, the first meal they should eat is dumplings. When waiting for the guests to leave, guests should be given noodles to eat. Noodles represent length of time, so inviting guests to eat noodles represents the wish for everyone’s continued friendship.
Field work
Here you can plant flowers, corn, green onions, watermelons and other vegetables and fruits. The field work differs depending on the season.
